FOUNDER / ACHIEVEMENTS
Grandmaster Rogelio Barcenilla, Jr. is a 4-time Chess Olympian -1988 World Chess Olympiad held in Thessaloniki, Greece; 1992 World Chess Olympiad held in Manila, Philippines; 1996 World Chess Olympiad held in Yerevan, Armenia; 2016 World Chess Olympiad held in Baku, Azerbaijan. He started playing chess at a tender age of five in the Philippines. He went on to become the 1985 Philippine Kiddies Champion; 1985 Philippine Youth Under 16 Champion; 1986 Philippine Junior Champion and 1989 Philippine Junior Champion. He holds the title of 2-time (back to back) Asian Junior Champion - 1989 Asian Junior Chess Championship held in Dubai, UAE; 1990 Asian Junior Championship held in Kerala, India; Bronze medalist in the 1991 World Junior Chess Championship held in Mamaia, Romania; 1989 SCOOP (Sports Columnists Organization of the Philippines) Major Awardee; 1990 PSA (Philippine Sportswriter Association) Major Awardee; 2017 ANI (Achievement, Nationalism, Inspiration) Awardee; 5-time Phoenix Open Champion and a veteran of chess tournaments.
